Kidsflix

Kidsflix is a national project of the Arthritis Foundation of South Australia. Begining in Adelaide in 1998, Kidsflix events are now held across metropolitan and regional South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, Western Australia, Tasmania and Queensland.

A Kidsflix event is a free morning for children with arthritis, a disability, chronic illness or facing social disadvantage and their immediate family members. Held in cinema complexes across Australia, the mornings begin with children's entertainment. This can include face painting, live performances, appearances by costumed movie characters, balloon artistry, clowns and puppet shows. After immersing themselves in the fun of the morning, families then move into the cinema to watch a new release children's movie. They receive a drink and popcorn to complete the movie experience.

Kidsflix is unique in that it is free for families attending, acknowledging the impact of disability and illness on siblings and the family unit.

"Kidsflix is so special to us for a number of reasons. My little boy loves the excitement of it all and events such as these allow our daughter to bond more closely him. Our little girl loses out on part of her childhood because of the extra support my son needs. In some ways, a movie ticket and a bit of free food may not seem like much - they won't change anyone's life but, at least for my family, the benefits go beyond that. The fact that there are people who are willing to make an effort to help us does make our life happier." - Mark

How you can help

Every child and family attending a Kidsflix event is sponsored by a local community member or a business. If you would like to help us continue the Kidsflix program, please donate today. By supporting a Kidsflix event and families in your community, you will be bringing joy and a sense of belonging to a child or family who would be very unlikely to otherwise have a movie experience. Kidsflix acknowledges the special needs of some children and brings families together.
