KIDS FLIX
Kidsflix is a national project of the Arthritis Foundation South Australia. A Kidsflix event is a FREE charity event for children and young people with either chronic illness, a disability and also those living in disadvantaged situations to have an out of the ordinary day with their family.
It is a day of family entertainment, including clowns, face painters, celebrity guests, interactive children’s shows, giveaways, a new release movie plus popcorn and drinks.
Kidsflix provides a much needed, positive family experience and for the majority of the children who attend Kidsflix events, this is the first time they have ever been to a movie.
At the Kidsflix events, we like to invite special guests who, when interviewed at the front of the cinema or during “meet and greet” time, try to give inspiration or a positive life message to the children who attend (and their families) along the lines of – having determination, a sense of purpose and “look at what I have done!”
Other messages may be: against the odds it can happen, dreams are possible, healthy living and so on. Kidsflix events are “themed” to suit the movie and the occasion.
Kidsflix is in its 13th year in South Australia and has been running in Victoria since 2006, New South Wales since 2001 and most recently Western Australia in 2010.
Kidsflix is special because we work with all of the Australian charities (based in NSW, VIC, WA and SA) to be able to invite children who really deserve a quality, family day out.
Kidsflix has wide community appeal
Unfortunately, the number of children affected by disability or disadvantage in the community is growing. Our client base is rapidly expanding and we are finding so many people we talk to know a child with a disability or a child who is disadvantaged by their family circumstances. Grandparents, neighbours, work mates and even people you meet down the shops relate to the Kidsflix story.
Kidsflix also has wide appeal because it invites children from all the charities, community groups and schools who support special needs children. We also invite sick kids from the likes of Childhood Cancer, Berry Street, Make-a Wish, children from the Women’s and Children’s Hospital etc.
The overwhelming feedback that we receive from the children and parents that attend a Kidsflix event all have a similar message – it was the best time they have had for a long time. The parents love the understanding audience factor, no-one stares at the children or their parents if their child makes noises or moves around a lot.

The “community worth” of Kidsflix is established
We receive many letters and emails of thanks from the families and the children’s organisations we work with, they are all from the heart and all speak a similar message.
The parents love the feeling of being part of a community who know what the other families are going through, its encouraging for the parents to realize they are not alone. And the children are able to go to the movies with their siblings; often they are attending the movies for their first time ever.
The schools and organisations are thrilled to be able to offer their families this valuable chance to be a family in a relaxing, fun and understanding environment.
Kidsflix accepts people as they are and aims to help build people’s feelings of worth about themself and their family.
We have celebrities, politicians and media people who love Kidsflix and will do what they can to promote it and help out as we need their help. This helps to raise the profile of our organisations to these sectors.
